Situated smack dab in between Pennsylvania’s state capitol and one of the most famous cities on the east coast, Harrisburg and Philadelphia, Reading should definitely be on your bucket list of places to visit in the near future. While it may not be as well known as Philadelphia, that does not mean it is lacking in any way! Reading is full of history, museums, art galleries, and adventure. All you have to do is book your trip! While a blog could never list all of the exciting things to do in this former railroad town, here are some of the best attractions to visit.

Antietam Lake

This picturesque lake is located 13 miles from Reading within Antietam Lake Park. If you love hiking, fishing, picnicking, biking, or just enjoy being surrounded by nature (and even a waterfall), this is the perfect destination for you. There are even structures dating back to 1865 that are still standing for those who enjoy history as well as nature!

Daniel Boone Homestead

As one of the most infamous figures in American history, this is a site that should be on everyone’s list. Built in 1731, this historical homestead is the birthplace of Daniel Boone. While the original log cabin was lost to history, the basement is the original structure built by Boone’s father. Today, the homestead is a museum that educates visitors on the lives of early settlers in the area.

GoggleWorks

GoggleWorks is a unique community arts center located in the historic goggle factory building. The arts center boasts seven teaching studios, a number of galleries, 35 artists’ studios, and houses several cultural and creative organizations dedicated to improving the lives of those in the community.

Pagoda

This novelty building was once intended to be a hotel and restaurant portion of a resort. While the plans for the resort fell through, the pagoda became a symbol for the city. Overlooking the Mount Penn Reserve, this seven story work of art makes for a unique hiking or walking destination. The views of the city of Reading make it even more worth the visit!

Reading Fightin Phils Minor League Baseball

This local minor league baseball team is housed in the FirstEnergy Stadium and has been a force to be reckoned with since 1967. The team has produced many baseballs stars including Greg Luzinski, Mike Schmidt, Carlos Ruiz, and Jimmy Rollins. Each game always features fun for the whole family, many surprises including giveaways and fireworks! Even if they aren’t your favorite team, their games are a great way to spend quality time together on vacation.
